Local 228 President Bill Morris has been an active
performing musician for many years and first joined the Musicians' Union as a
member of the Chicago local in 1949. He initially joined the navy early in the
Korean War as a musician after seeing an audition posting at the local union
hall in Chicago. He has resided in the Kalamazoo area since 1960 and
has been a member of local 228 since that time, assuming the presidency of the
local in 1975. His musical activities include performing on trumpet, saxophone,
and vibraphone over the years in the areas of dance work, jazz, stage shows,
circuses and performing on past occasions as guest soloist with the Kalamazoo
Symphony and the Western Michigan University Jazz Orchestra. He is a certified public accountant and was a full
time faculty member of the College of Business at Western Michigan University,
where he served in that capacity for over 40 years. He currently performs in several musical organizations in the Kalamazoo area.
